I started 40LB Sledgehammer several years ago with the idea of doing one or two of my own events. After a major car wreck (guy ran a red light and hit me head on), I was unable to race and got into the back side of racing. I also have had various positions on local charity boards.

I work as a locomotive engineer full time and serve on Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen's Indiana State Legislative Board's Executive Committee. I road biked most my life, then got into running, then triathlon, then back to just riding (Mountain bike, cyclocross, and some road). I owe him greatly for the help he's given me. He really wants to help people by providing this low cost way to make their events better. Ps - I have met Brian Agee and helped him time a race in another state and I can vouch that he is as genuine and honest and hardworking as he seems online. We try to limit our schedule because we both have families and regular jobs and we both train for races ourselves. We have timed over 25 individual races in 2014 and will easily have that many next year. ART runs circles around what we were using before.

I bought the manual version and timed a race alongside my partner with it and was hooked on the ease of use. I found out that you can work all day, every day for free! We had used a software product that was designed by another running club buddy for several months before we stumbled upon ART on YouTube. That was mostly to cover some of our time and material costs.

We timed about 16 races for free before we started asking for donations and then later asking to be paid. My partner and I were helping at races in different capacities and later began timing races to help support local events.

Nothing like being a part of live action to focus your attention. hahaa! We also get a kick out of working the finish line. We do charge for our services and I did form a company but mainly I like working with race directors because they are usually git-r-done types. At ORD we are just a couple of guys who time races on the side mostly for our own fun. I think I had already snooped and "liked" your FB page. Running seems to bring people together like nothing else does, and I really enjoy being a part of that. I was a long-distance charity cyclist and bicycle commuter/advocate for many years, and have always loved the passion that new and veteran athletes have when pushing themselves for a good cause-whether it's to win or just to finish, to raise money in honor or in memory of a family member, to lose weight and gain fitness, and so on. I'd previously run once in awhile when I was first in college, but it was to burn calories, not to compete. The irony is that was the most poorly organize race, so I started volunteering to help them, and now I'm doing it for a living.

I started training to run a race in her honor and to raise money for the palliative care facility where she passed away. I started running and racing a couple of years ago after my mom died. I'm editing my post to include my running experience: I think I am an anomaly in the group in that I haven't been running very long.
